BA (Hons) Computer Games Arts, University for the Creative Arts.

Whilst studying on the BA (Hons) Computer Games Arts you’ll join a community or practitioners, who actively seek creative challenges, embraces experimentation and encourages independent thinking. Supported by our experienced industry practitioners (both staff team and through visiting lecturers), you’ll cultivate a deep grounding in a series of key topics, covering art skills and observational drawing, using interactive and digital domains to create innovative content, 3D and 2D concept and asset development/production, current tools and technologies, games design and disciplines, and commercial perspectives.

You’ll also learn industry-standard practices such as Agile Development, complete a major project demonstrating a working game environment, and develop your portfolio.

You’ll have access to outstanding facilities too – over 75 high-end PCs dedicated to games design, which include Alienware Area 51 towers, a studio with games systems and interactivity software (including Unity and Unreal 3D Editor), CGI Autodesk Entertainment suite (with Maya, 3D Studio Max, Motionbuilder and Mudbox), Adobe Master Collection, ZBrush, Quixel Suite, Andriod & IOs tablet dev kit, VR dev room for HTC Vive and Oculus DK2 , Wacom Cintiq graphics tablets, NextGen consoles in each studio, a sound production recording studios with Dehumaniser, and film and animation facilities, including production cameras, workshops and digital editing studios. 

 

Throughout the course, you’ll work both in small groups and individually. You’ll be helped to develop a range of skills, from paper based prototyping to advanced, transferable skills in both digital 2D and digital 3D content creation using a variety of software, but always with a firm grip on the aesthetics, form and meaning of the assets which you create.

The course also provides a strong grounding throughout in the use of sketchbook development, drawing and life drawing as a discipline and as an important form of concept communication.

Our graduates have progressed to work on AAA console titles and quirky independent games for iOS and Android, to setting up their indie dev companies using the skills they learnt at UCA.
